Jotakin vaaleanpunaista tytölle/Someting pink for a little girl

Vanhin tyttöni on jo pidemmän aikaa toivonut uutta neuletakkia. Väritoivomus oli selvä pinkkiä tai vaaleanpunaista. Löysin jo aiemmin sopivan langan ja aloitin maaliskuun alussa pitsijakun neulomisen. En ollut aiemmin tehnyt raglanhihoja, mutta ohje oli varsin selkeä ja hihojen neulominen onnistui loistavasti. Ohje oli 100 cm kokoiselle ja jouduin tekemään jotakin muutoksia, koska tarvitsin koon 120 cm.

My oldest daughter has wished for a new cardigan for a very long time. The choice of the color was very clear: it had to be pink. I had already found the perfect yarn earlier, but at the beginning of March I had time to start this project. I have not knitted raglan sleeves before, but the pattern was very clear and I didn't have any problems to make the sleeves. The challenging point for me was that the pattern was for a 120 size child and I needed to knit 120 cm size for my daughter.

Tein seuraavat muutokset/I made following modifications:

Etu-ja takakpl
- loin 168 s ja neuloin kunnes neuleen korkeus oli 32 cm. Normaalit 6 s kavennukset hihoja varten.
Hihat:
- Loin 34 s ja tein lisäykset ohjeen mukaan. Yhteensä minulla oli 64 s hihaa varten. Neuloin, kunnes korkeus oli 32 cm.

Yhdistäminen:

-Tein kavennuksia raglanhihalle, kunnes jäljellä oli 84 s. Tämän jälkeen seurasin ohjetta.

Body:
- I casted on 168 s and knitted until the body was 32 cm long. Then casted off 6 s per each side for the sleeves.
Sleeves:
- I casted on 34s and then made the additions as said in the pattern. All together I had 68 s for the sleeve.
Combining the sleeves and the body:
- I made casts offs for the raglan sleeves until there were 84 s left. Then I followed the pattern.


Lopulliset mitat/Finished measurements after blocking:

Hihan sisämitta/Sleeve (under arm): 32 cm
Etukpl hihasaumaan/Body (to under arm): 32 cm
Koko etukpl/Total height of the body: 51 cm
Leveys helmasta/Hem width: 86 cm
Leveys rinnankorkeudelta/Chest width: 70 cm

Hihoista tuli sentin verran liian pitkät, mutta onpahan kasvuvaraa.

The sleeves ended up to be 1-2 cm too long, but the posivitive side is that the cardigan can be worn longer.

Lankahamsterin eka tuotos/First project of the "Do not buy any yarn" month

Päätin osallistua ensimmäisen kerran lankahamsterikuukauteen, jossa tarkoituksena on olla ostamatta mitään uutta lankaa kuukauden ajan. Samanaikaisesti koetetaan neuloa jotakin valmista jo varastossa olevista langoista.

I decided to participate to the "do not buy any new yarn"month. The purpose is that one should knit project from the yarn in stash and not to buy any new yarn.

Minulla ei vielä ole varastossa kuin kaksi laatikollista lankaa, mutta koin tarpeelliseksi osallistua tähän haasteeseen. Kaappitilaa kun tässä talossa ei ole kovin paljon, joten pienikin lankavarasto näkyy nyssyköinä nurkissa.

At the moment, I have only two quite small boxes of yarn in stash, but I found it necessary to participate to this challenge. The main reason is that we don't have that much storage room in the house and even a small yarn stash is visible and usually in somebody's way.

Sain valmiiksi ensimmäisen työn, joka on ladattavissa Ravely:sta. Tulos on aivan ihana ja näitä voisi tehdä enemmänkin, jos vain olisi pieniä tyttövauvoja, joille näitä lahjottaisi. Omat tytöt ovat jo hieman liian isopäisiä tähän hattuun.

I finished my first project that can be downloaded from Ravelry. The hat is awesome and I could make more of these if only I had little baby girls who to knit the hats. Inofortunately my own girls are too old for this hat.

Koska käsialani on löyhää ja käytin isompia helmiä kuin ohjeessa tein seuraavan muutokset ohjeeseen: Neuloin ne silmukat, joissa oli helmet, helmisen kiinnityskierroksen jälkeen oikein takareunasta. Näin vältyin hukkaamasta helmiä pipon sisään vaan ne pysyivät nätisti hatun etupuolella.

I knit quite loosely and I used bigger beads than in the pattern I had to make some changes to the pattern. After the round were the beads are added, I knited purl entire row except the stitches were the beads were: those stitches I knit through the back loop. This prevented the heavier beads disappearing to the inside of the hat.

Neulontaa Olympialaisten aikana/Ravelolympics

Otin osaa Olympialaisneulontahaasteeseen Ravelryssa. Tavoitteena oli neuloa jotakin kahden olympialaisviikon aikana. Päätin käyttää varastossa olevia lankoja ja sain valmiiksi yhdet vauvan tossut ja pipon.

I participated to Ravelolympics and my aim was just to knit something during the two olympic weeks. I decided to use the yarn I had in stash and I finished a pair of booties and one hat.

Tämä ohje oli aivan ihana ja ensimmäinen, jonka tein Magic Loop -tekniikalla. Olen aina pitänyt töiden päättelystä ja kokoamisesta, mutta täytyy myöntää, että näitä saumattomia tossuja oli aika mukava tehdä.

This project was my firs Magic Loop project ever. I have always loved to finish my projects and make all the seams, but I have to admit that making of these booties changec my mind. Knitting without the seams makes sence.

Päätin myös katsoa jääkiekon loppuottelun Canada-USA ja sen aikana sain valmiiksi itselleni pipon. Se sopii täydellisesti ulkoilupukuuni ja tuli heti käyttöön.

I also watched the ice hockey game Canada-USA and while watching it, I finished a hat for myself. The new hat fits perfectly to my winter coat and I have already used it couple of times.

Tädin ensimmäinen lahja/Aunt's first gift

Minusta tuli täti joulukuun kuukautta sitten, kun veljeni sai lapsen. Uutena tätinä halusin tehdä jotakin vauvalle ja löysin vanhasta Moda-lehdestä hyvän kaavan töppösille. Joskus on hyvä, että kaikki suunnitellut neuleet eivät valmistu, vaan joitakin lankoja jää varastoon. Tällä kertaa löysin kaapista Panda-lankaa, josta piti joskus tulla pipo, mutta nyt siitä tuli töppöset. Kaava ei ollut yksinkertaisimmasta päästä, kun yhdistettäviä kappaleita oli kolme per tossu, mutta lopputulos on ihan hyvä.

I became an aunt two months ago when my brother got his first child. As an new auntie I wanted to knit something for the baby and I found a good pattern from the old Moda magazine. I had also opportunity to check my stash and it seems that sometimes it is good that not every knitting project is going to be finished. For this project I used Panda yarn what was once bought for a hat, but now I used it for booties. The pattern was not the simpliest one, because one bootie consisted three parts, but the outcome looks good.

Lankavaraston lisäksi kotoa löytyy myös kangasvarasto. Tytöt pyysivät minulta pallohameita ja ryhdyin tekemään niitä eräänä lauantaina. Kaava on omasta päästä ja ehkä siksi kesti hetken ennen kuin tajusin, miten vuoritettu pallohame kasataan. Loppujen lopuksi pidin helpoimpana jättää koko vyötärö auki, kääntää hame oikeinpäin ja tehdä vasta viimeiseksi vyötärösauma. Vuoriosa on pari senttiä lyhkäisempi ja ehkä noin 20 kapeampi kuin pääliosa. Hameet ovat olleet jo kovassa käytössä ja nyt kun tiedän, miten nämä ommellaan niin ehkä saan kesäksi näitä muutamat tehtyä.

Besides the yarn stash I also have a fabric stash at home. Girls wanted to have new skirts and I found the facrics from my stash and on one saturday morning I started to sew them. The pattern is my own and maybe that is the reason why it took a while to figure out how the dress is made. Finally I decided to sew the waist seam last. The inner dress (lining) is 20 cm narrower and 3 cm shorter than the outer skirts. These skirts have been in used since the day I finished them. I think I will make more of these before next summer. At least now I know how to make this kind of skirts.

Uusi vuosi ja uudet mekot/New Year and new dresses

Vuosi on vaihtunut ja aloitin sen ompelemalla tytöille liivimekot. Löysin Eurokankaasta kuviollista samettia ja se sopi täydellisesti pienen tytön mekkoon. Mekon kaava on Ottobre designin lehdestä Talvi 6/2007. Laitoin vuorin vain mekon yläosaan ja se toimi hyvin. Mekot ovat jo olleet ahkerassa käytössä.

The new year has started and I began it byt sewing dresses to my girls. I found the right fabric from local Eurokangas. The pattern is from Ottobre design magazine, Winter 6/2007. I put lining only to the upper part of the dress and it worked out well . The dresses have been in use since the day I finished them.

Olen jo vannonut moneen kertaan, etten hurahda Tildailuun, mutta olihan sitä pakko kokeilla. Tein 6-vuotiaalle tytölle syntymäpäivälahjaksi "meikkipussin". Pussi oli nopea tehdä ja kankaat löytyivät varastosta. Ainoa haaste oli ymmärtää ohje, koska tein pussin tanskankielisestä kirjasta Tildas hus, kirjoittajana Tone Finnanger. Täytyy keksiä vielä, mitä ostaisin pussiin sisälle. Toivottavasti lahja kelpaa tytölle.

I have many times said that I won't ever make Tilda things, but I had to try it, at least once. I made a toilet bag for a birthday present for a 6 years old girl. The bag was quick and quite easy to make. The pattern was a little bit challenging, because it was written in Danish and I don't know the language at all. The pattern was from a book of Tone Finnanger. I just have to decide what to put inside the bag and then hope that the birthday girl likes the present.

Sitten vielä jotakin neulottua. Aloitin joulua ennen neulomaan Crystal Palace Yarns:n ohjeella boleroa, eikä se vieläkään ole valmis. Näillä pakkasilla olisi mukava saada kietaistua juuri tälläinen bolero päällensä. Ehkä tästä vielä tulee valmista ennen helmikuun loppua.

Then something knitted. Before Christmas I started to knit a shrug from Crystal Palace Yarns and it is not yet ready. It would be very nice to wrap this shrug around myself when is is so cold outside at the moment, but I think it not might be true before February.

Työkalupussi ja jotakin neulottua/Tool roll and something knitted

Sain vielä yhden yhden käsityön valmiiksi ennen joulua. Tämä olikin sitten viimeinen. Tämän jälkeen pidän lomaa päivän, tai ainakin yhden illan. Tein miehen poranteriä varten suojapussin. Suojapussin malli on vanhan työkalukataloogin mainoksesta. Pussista tulee ihan mieleen puikkopussi, joka on toiminnaltaan ihan samanlainen. Hermot ja ompelukoneen moottori meinasivat loppua kun kangasta oli ommeltavana 4-kertaisesti ja päälle vielä kaksikertainen reunanauha. Valmista kuitenkin tuli.

I managed to finish one more thing before Christmas. This will be the last one. After this project I won't do anything for a day, or at least for one evening. I made a tool roll for auger bits to my husband. The model is from an advertisement that was in the old tool catalogue. The roll reminds me of the knitting needle roll. The idea is the same. I almost lost my temper and ruined motor of my sewing machine when I tried to sew this thing: 4 layers of thick fabric and 2 layers of ribbon should have been sewn at the same time. Everything went well and the outcome looks nice.

En voinut olla neulomatta, joten aloitin baskerin tekemisen. Onpahan jotakin tekemistä joulunpyhiksi.

I couldn't be without knitting. So, I started to knit a beret. I will have something to do during the Christmas holiday.

Joulupukin apulaisena/A helping hand for Santa Claus

Olen viime aikoina toiminut joulupukin apulaisena ja saanut valmiiksi yhtä sun toista jouluksi. Olen antanut neulontataitojen levätä ja tehnyt hieman muitakin käsitöitä. Sain valmiiksi kaulahuivin, pari taloa tulitikuille, tilkkupeiton ja pari ostoskassia. Kaikkien näiden töiden jälkeen mielessä on jo monta neulomista odottavaa projektia. Lankoja oli onneksi varastossa, joten seuraavaksi aloitan Crystal Palace Yarns:n boleron tekemisen (Malli Ravelrystä).

Lately I have been a helping hand for Santa Claus and I have finished many things for Chistmas. I have not knitted so much, but done some other hand crafts in the mean while. I have knitted a scarf, made two homes for matches, one quilted blanket and two shopping bags.

After all these projects I'm really looking forward to start some knitting project. Luckily I have yarns in stock and next I'm going to knit an Aran Cabled Shrug by Crystal Palace Yarns (pattern available in Ravelry).

Taloja tulitikkuaskeille. Tällainen löytyi eräältä takanreunalta ja tätä täytyi kokeilla tehdä itse. Aivan ihana keksintö! Talo on tehty koivusta ja maalattu.

Houses for matches. The model was seen above one fireplace. I had to try to make one by myself. The houses were made from the wood and then painted.

Viimeinen, mutta ei vähäisin tuotos on vauvan tilkkupeitto. Malli on Singerin tilkkutyökirjasta.
This is last, but not the least of my projects. This is a blanket for a newborn. The model is star stashing and it is from Singer's quilting book.
