Peite syksylle/Afghan blanket for chilly Autumn nights

Olen aina halunnut tehdä itse lapsilleni tilkkupeitot, johon he voivat kääriytyä viileinä syysiltoina. Toiveena on, että peitot lämmittäisivät heitä vielä aikuisinakin. Olen pitkään miettinyt kankaisen tilkkutäkin ja neulotun peitteen välillä ja ainakin toinen lapsistani saa nyt villasekoitelangasta tehdyn peitteen. Neulottu peite edistyy näin loma-aikana hyvin ja ehkä teen näitä vielä toisenkin.

For a long time I have wanted to make blankets for my kids. The idea was that they could wrap the blankets around them during the cold Autumn nights. I also wish that they could use the blankets when they are older. I have thought whether to sew a quilted blanket or to knit an Afghan. Today it seems that at least one kid will get the knitted Afghan. The Afghan has progressed really well and perhaps I will knit another one later.

Hienointa mallissa on upeat värit ja nokkela toteutustapa. Peitto tehdään neliöistä ja varsinaisia saumoja tulee vain kun neljä isompaa kokonaisuutta (1 osa = 5x5 neliön kokonaisuus) liitetään yhdeksi peitoksi.

This pattern has two great things: Firstly, it has beautiful color design and secondly, the structure is brilliant. There are only four seams in the whole blanket. The seams have to be made when the four sections (1 section = 5x5 squares) are combined to a blanket.

Suloisia pöllöjä/ Sweet Owls

Vuoden 2013 ensimmäinen joululahja on tehty. Ihastuin tähän malliin heti kun näin tämän. Tätä oli siis pakko kokeilla heti. Kahdesta lankakerästä saan vielä toiset lapaset, jotka ovat jo tekeillä. Värimaailma on päinvastainen: valkoinen pöllö tummalla taustalla.

The first Christmas present of this year is now ready. I fell in love with this pattern at first sight. So, I had to try this pattern right away. I made one pair of mittens and the second pair is on the way. I can make two little mittens from two skeins. For the second pair the color scheme is different: white owl on the dark blue base.

I also knitted as a gift, one head scarf for a 8 year old girl. Surprise, surpise, I added some beads to the scarf. I modified the pattern, because I wanted to have an adjustable head scarf. So, the scarf can be opened from the back, if needed. Also this pattern can be loaded from Ravelry.

Pitkästä aikaa/Long time no see

Onpa aika taas kulunut nopeasti. Tarkoitus oli päivittää neulomuksia tänne, mutta olen vain neulonut ja jättänyt kirjoittamiset vähemmälle. Tässä on muutamia juttuja, joita sain tehtyä talven aikana. Seuraavaksi kiinnostaisi tehdä jokin ihana neuletakki alpakasta itselleni. Sopivia malleja on vain niin monia, etten osaa ihan heti valita niistä sitä oikeinta.

Time goes fast. My intention was to update my knitting projects here regulary, but lately I have only been knitting and not writing blog texts. Here I have mentioned couple of my projects that I have finished during the winter. Next I would love to knit something for myself from soft alpaca yarn. The problem is that there are so many beautiful models that I can't decide which one to choose.

Lintuhäkki/Birdcage

Välillä ei vain jaksa neuloa, vaan pitää tehdä jotakin ompeemalla. Halusin tehdä pitkästä aikaa jotakin nättiä lasten huoneisiin ja käsiini osui Tone Finnagerin Tildan ateljeessa. Vaikka en olekaan kova tildailija niin täytyy myöntää, että kirjassa on hienoa ideoita. Yksi hyvistä ideoista oli mielestäni lintuhäkki, joka sopii allergistenkin kotiin.

Sometimes I don't feel like knitting and then I sew something. I have planned to sew something nice and cute for my children, to their rooms. Luckily, I happened to find Tone Finnanger's Tilda Atelier book. I have not been a big fan of Tilda before, but really like this book. It has a lot of great ideas and patterns and everything is very well designed. One of the ideas I liked was the Birdcage. I think it is great, because you can have a cotton fabric bidrcage at your house even if you're allergic.

Kirjassa neuvottiin laittamaan metallilankaa häkin pohjaan ja seiniin. Sain paikallisesta kangaskaupasta vinkin, että voisin myös pujottaa vahvikkeeksi kovikenauhaa, jota käytetään mm. korseteissa. Tämä kovikenauha toimi erinomaisesti ja sitä oli helppo käyttää.

The bookguided that one should use metal wire inside the cage as a reinforcement. One salesperson in the local fabric store gave me an excellent idea to use plastic corset boning coil inside the fabric. The coil worked really good and it was easy to use.

Kaksi sukkaa kerralla/Two socks at a time

Ostin itselleni uuden kirjan, jossa opetettiin tekemään kaksi kärjestä aloitettua sukkaa samanaikaisesti yhdellä pyöröpuikolla. Edistyneemmät neulojat ovat jo käyttäneet tätä tekniikkaa ties kuinka pitkään, mutta itsellä rohkeus riitti vasta nyt kokeilemaan tätä.

Kirja on Melissa Morgan-Oakesin kirjoittama Toe-Up 2-at-a-time socks, josta on ilmestynyt myös suomennos (Varpaista Varteen). Voin suositella kirjaa hyvänä perusteoksena, jos ei ole aikaisempaa kokemusta kahden sukan neulomisesta pyöröpuikoilla. Kirjassa tehdään ensin pienet mallisukat, joiden avulla käydään läpi sukanteon eri vaiheet. Minä kyllä jätin näiden tekemisen väliin, koska kuvittelin osaavani pelkistä kuvista katselemalla. Ongelmia tuli vasta siinä vaiheessa, kun piti tehdä lyhennettyjä kierroksia kantapäässä.

I bought the book Toe-up 2-at-a-Time Socks written by Melissa Morgan-Oakes. This book helps you to knit two socks at a time with circular needles. I know that there are lot of knitters that have used this method for years, but I have not have the courage to try this until now.
This book is a very good book, if you don't have any experience on making two socks a the same time. I like the idea that the basic instructions are explained with making the mini sample socks. Of course I didn't make those socks, because I thought I could learn just by looking at the pictures. When I was shaping the heel I realised that I should have made the sample socks.

Kuukauden aherruksen jälkeen sain sukat valmiiksi. Oli hyvä, että aloitus tuli tehtyä varpaista, sillä lanka hädin tuskin riitti varteen asti.

After one month of hard work, I managed to finished the socks. It was good that these socks were toe-up, because there wasn't much yarn left when I started the leg.

Neulontatyöt eivät ole oikein edenneet, joten puuhailin jotakin ihan muuta. Ostin muutaman peruspannan ja silkkukukkia ja tein niistä hiuspantoja syntymäpäiväsankarille ja vieraille. Idean sain Jennifer Paganellin kirjasta Mekkoni mun. Kirja on täynnä ihastuttavia mekkoja ja paljon muutakin.

I haven't been able to finish any of my knittings, so decided to make something totally different. I bought couple of basic hair bands and some artificial flowers. I made cute flower hair bands to a birthday girl and to her friends. I got the idea from the book of Jennifer Paganelli, Girl's World: Twenty-One Sewing Projects to Make for Little Girls.

Tällaisia pannoista tuli. Kyllä näissä kelpaa leikkiä keijuja tai prinsessoja.

Here are the finished hair bands. Perfect for little  princesses and fairies.

Tarvikkeet yhteen pantaan/Supplies for one hair band:

- 2-3 tekokukkaa lehtineen/ 2-3 artificial flowers with leaves
- 1 muovipanta (ei hammastusta sisäpuolella)/ one plastic hair band
- kuumaliimapistooli ja liimaa/ hot clue gun and suitable clue

Ensin liimattiin lehdet kummallekin puolelle pantaa. Sitten keskelle pantaa kukat. Nopeata ja yksinkertaista.
First the leaves were attached to both sides of the hair band and after that one can clue the flowers on top of the hair bands.Quick and simple.
