Uusi vuosi ja uudet mekot/New Year and new dresses

Vuosi on vaihtunut ja aloitin sen ompelemalla tytöille liivimekot. Löysin Eurokankaasta kuviollista samettia ja se sopi täydellisesti pienen tytön mekkoon. Mekon kaava on Ottobre designin lehdestä Talvi 6/2007. Laitoin vuorin vain mekon yläosaan ja se toimi hyvin. Mekot ovat jo olleet ahkerassa käytössä.

The new year has started and I began it byt sewing dresses to my girls. I found the right fabric from local Eurokangas. The pattern is from Ottobre design magazine, Winter 6/2007. I put lining only to the upper part of the dress and it worked out well . The dresses have been in use since the day I finished them.

Olen jo vannonut moneen kertaan, etten hurahda Tildailuun, mutta olihan sitä pakko kokeilla. Tein 6-vuotiaalle tytölle syntymäpäivälahjaksi "meikkipussin". Pussi oli nopea tehdä ja kankaat löytyivät varastosta. Ainoa haaste oli ymmärtää ohje, koska tein pussin tanskankielisestä kirjasta Tildas hus, kirjoittajana Tone Finnanger. Täytyy keksiä vielä, mitä ostaisin pussiin sisälle. Toivottavasti lahja kelpaa tytölle.

I have many times said that I won't ever make Tilda things, but I had to try it, at least once. I made a toilet bag for a birthday present for a 6 years old girl. The bag was quick and quite easy to make. The pattern was a little bit challenging, because it was written in Danish and I don't know the language at all. The pattern was from a book of Tone Finnanger. I just have to decide what to put inside the bag and then hope that the birthday girl likes the present.

Sitten vielä jotakin neulottua. Aloitin joulua ennen neulomaan Crystal Palace Yarns:n ohjeella boleroa, eikä se vieläkään ole valmis. Näillä pakkasilla olisi mukava saada kietaistua juuri tälläinen bolero päällensä. Ehkä tästä vielä tulee valmista ennen helmikuun loppua.

Then something knitted. Before Christmas I started to knit a shrug from Crystal Palace Yarns and it is not yet ready. It would be very nice to wrap this shrug around myself when is is so cold outside at the moment, but I think it not might be true before February.

Työkalupussi ja jotakin neulottua/Tool roll and something knitted

Sain vielä yhden yhden käsityön valmiiksi ennen joulua. Tämä olikin sitten viimeinen. Tämän jälkeen pidän lomaa päivän, tai ainakin yhden illan. Tein miehen poranteriä varten suojapussin. Suojapussin malli on vanhan työkalukataloogin mainoksesta. Pussista tulee ihan mieleen puikkopussi, joka on toiminnaltaan ihan samanlainen. Hermot ja ompelukoneen moottori meinasivat loppua kun kangasta oli ommeltavana 4-kertaisesti ja päälle vielä kaksikertainen reunanauha. Valmista kuitenkin tuli.

I managed to finish one more thing before Christmas. This will be the last one. After this project I won't do anything for a day, or at least for one evening. I made a tool roll for auger bits to my husband. The model is from an advertisement that was in the old tool catalogue. The roll reminds me of the knitting needle roll. The idea is the same. I almost lost my temper and ruined motor of my sewing machine when I tried to sew this thing: 4 layers of thick fabric and 2 layers of ribbon should have been sewn at the same time. Everything went well and the outcome looks nice.

En voinut olla neulomatta, joten aloitin baskerin tekemisen. Onpahan jotakin tekemistä joulunpyhiksi.

I couldn't be without knitting. So, I started to knit a beret. I will have something to do during the Christmas holiday.

Joulupukin apulaisena/A helping hand for Santa Claus

Olen viime aikoina toiminut joulupukin apulaisena ja saanut valmiiksi yhtä sun toista jouluksi. Olen antanut neulontataitojen levätä ja tehnyt hieman muitakin käsitöitä. Sain valmiiksi kaulahuivin, pari taloa tulitikuille, tilkkupeiton ja pari ostoskassia. Kaikkien näiden töiden jälkeen mielessä on jo monta neulomista odottavaa projektia. Lankoja oli onneksi varastossa, joten seuraavaksi aloitan Crystal Palace Yarns:n boleron tekemisen (Malli Ravelrystä).

Lately I have been a helping hand for Santa Claus and I have finished many things for Chistmas. I have not knitted so much, but done some other hand crafts in the mean while. I have knitted a scarf, made two homes for matches, one quilted blanket and two shopping bags.

After all these projects I'm really looking forward to start some knitting project. Luckily I have yarns in stock and next I'm going to knit an Aran Cabled Shrug by Crystal Palace Yarns (pattern available in Ravelry).

Ready to do some shopping? The model of these shopping bags was taken from a plastic bag. These have more style than a plastic bag haven't they?

Taloja tulitikkuaskeille. Tällainen löytyi eräältä takanreunalta ja tätä täytyi kokeilla tehdä itse. Aivan ihana keksintö! Talo on tehty koivusta ja maalattu.

Houses for matches. The model was seen above one fireplace. I had to try to make one by myself. The houses were made from the wood and then painted.

Viimeinen, mutta ei vähäisin tuotos on vauvan tilkkupeitto. Malli on Singerin tilkkutyökirjasta.
This is last, but not the least of my projects. This is a blanket for a newborn. The model is star stashing and it is from Singer's quilting book.

Lokakuun sukkia/Socktoberfest results

Osallistuin ensimmäistä kertaa Soctoberfest -neulontatapahtumaan Ravelry:ssa ja olen erittäin tyytyväinen tulokseen. Parissa viikossa sain tehtyä kahden sukat. Sukat ovat joululahjoja läheisille ihmisille, mutta ehkä on parempi, etten paljasta enempää.

For the first time in my life I participated to the Socktoberfest knitting happening in the Raverly and I'm very happy that I did that. I managed to complete two pair of socks in two weeks. These will be Christmas presents for my family, but it is better not to tell more.

Ensiksi tein Whitby-sukat. Malli on otettu Nancy Bushin ihanasta kirjasta Knitting on the Road.

The first pair I knitted was Whitby socks from the lovely book of Nancy Bush, Knitting on the Road.

Kummatkin sukat onnistuivat ihan hyvin. Nancy Bushin kirjasta löytyy monta kivaa mallia, joihin voi käyttää jo mittavaksi käynyttä lankavarastoa.

Both of the pairs look good and I think that I'm going to make many socks from the book of Nancy Bush.

Ostoksilla/Shopping

On se kumma, että vaikka lankaa on kotona kaappi täynnä niin silti täyty ostaa uutta lankaa. Vanhat langat eivät ikinä tunnu sopivan uusiin projekteihin. Viikonlopulla kävin lankakaupassa ja ostin lankoja joululahjoihin.

It is a little bit strange that even if I have a closets full of different kinds of yarns I still need to buy new yarn. It seems that the old yarns in stock never fit to the new projects. I visited the local yarn shop last weekend and bought yarns for Christmas presents.

Tästä Janne-langasta pitäisi tulla Liekki- sukat. Kuvio on mahtava, harmi vain, ettei langasta ollut saatavilla vielä kirkkaampaa oranssia. Näillä väreillä kuitenkin mennään ja eiköhän näistä hyvät tule.

These Janne yarns should be used for Liekki socks. The pattern looks nice. It is a pity that there wasn't any bright orange yarn left in the shop. I hope the colors look nice in the finished socks.

Toinen ostos oli käsinvärjätty Zitron Trekking. Lanka näyttää aivan ihanalta. Tätä lankaa olisi tarkoitus käyttää konttineuleen harjoitteluun ja tehdä siitä kaulahuivi.

Then I bought two skeins of hand dyed Zitron Trekking for a scarf. The yarn looks nice and I thinkit suits perfectly for a entrelac scraf.

Jotenkin tuntuu siltä, että vaikka ostin langat ajoissa niin neulon viimeisiä joululahjoja vielä jouluaattona. Kun aloittaa ajoissa niin voi lopettaa myöhässä.

I think that even if I have bought the yarns this early I will knit the last projects just one night before Christmas. When it comes to Christmas presents my moto is: When you start early you can finish late.

Helmiä ja enemmän helmiä/Beads and more beads

Olin toisen kerran kaksipäiväisellä helmityökurssilla ja tässä hieman tuloksia. Kurssi oli jälleen kerran loistava. Seuraava kurssi on onneksi jo helmikuussa ja ainakin minulla jäi niin monta hyvää ideaa toteuttamatta, että kurssille on miltei pakko mennä.

I was in the bead jewellery course this weekend. The course was once again (this was my second time) excellent and you can find the results below. The next course will be held already next February and at least I have so many ideas that I didn't have time to start that I'm almost forced to take the next course.

Olen monet kerrat ihaillut Manos del Uruguayn Silk blend lankaa, mutta miltei yhtä monta kertaa olen onnistunut jättämään langan ostamatta. Kunnes löysin tähtineuloshuivin nimeltä Holding Hands, Feeding Ducks.





Tiesin heti, että minun pitäisi käyttää Silk Blendiä tähän huiviin.
Olen tehnyt huivista vasta 1/4 -osan, mutta se näyttää jo nyt upealta. Tämä on juuri oikeanlainen projekti, sillä lähiaikoina matkustan paljon ja tämän saa sopivasti käsimatkatavaroihin mukaan.

I have many times admired the Silk Blend Yarn from Manos del Uruguay and almost every time I have managed to not to buy the yarn. Until I found the star stitch scarf called Holding Hands, Feeding Ducks. Instantly I knew that I had to use Silk blend for this pattern.



I have made only 1/4 of the scarf, but altready now it looks gorgeous. This is just the right project for me right now, because I will travel during the two following weeks and this project I can take with me without problems.
